Drawing Lessons

Drawing instruction featuring a variety of mediums customized to your interests

Lessons for students, consist of learning and using various drawing mediums such as pencil, pen & ink, marker, charcoal, conté crayon, oil pastel, chalk pastel, crayon, and colored pencil.

  • Individual lessons for children 5-11 are for 30 minutes each week (may increase to 45; please discuss with the instructor for details).

  • Individual lessons for ages 12 and older are for 60 minutes each week. 

  • Please inquire within if you are interested in taking lessons with a friend(s) or family member(s) and you can coordinate the same schedule, and share a similar skill and experience level.

Painting Lessons

Painting instruction featuring oil, acrylic, watercolor, and gouache customized to your skill level and goals

Painting lessons for individual and group students consist of creating paintings in various paint mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, and gouache. Note: In order to ensure the highest level of success for students who wish to become proficient in painting, it is recommended that students have previous experience in drawing, whether they have taken lessons or drawing classes in the past or are currently in them. This serves as an appropriate prerequisite to painting due to the nature of the tools and materials.

  • Individual lessons for ages 12 and older are for 60 minutes each week.

Mixed Media and Printmaking Lessons

Collage, two-dimensional mixed media, woodblock, linoleum, and gel printmaking, cyanotype, and chemical transfer drawing

Take your drawings and paintings to the next level with lessons in mixed media and collage! Paper collaging and mixed materials on paper and canvas are featured in these lessons along with creative challenges. For printmakers, woodblock, linoleum, and gel block printmaking are offered in lessons. Bench hooks are provided in the studio. Cyanotype printing and chemical transfer drawing are also available, as well as woodburning, felting, and paper atelier.

Handbuilt Ceramics, Plaster Casting, and Small-Scale Sculpture

Sculpture lessons featuring air-dry clays to create handbuilt ceramic pieces, polymer clays for baked sculpture pieces, mold making and plaster casting, and small-scale sculpting options in wood, wire, and mixed media

Sculpture comes to life in the studio with lessons in ceramic handbuilding, polymer clay building, plaster casting, wood carving, and wire building.

For ceramic handbuilding (this studio uses Trinity Ceramic Supply Air-Dry clay for this method). soft slab, hard slab, coil, pinch, and solid sculpting are techniques taught in-studio. ​

For polymer clay building (this studio uses Sculpey baking clay for this method), solid sculpting, scoring, wire base, and handbuilding are techniques taught in studio. 

Mold-making and plaster casting are taught in studio and step-by-step.

Wood carving and wire building are also taught in studio, and step-by-step.
